“What do we want in Brazil?”

After BETTER OFF DEAD, Sodom were left without a guitarist. Once again. Michael Hoffmann, who joined in 1990, slunk off to Brazil, where he wanted to open a studio and record an album with Sodom. "But we didn't feel like doing that, and Chris (Witchhunter, drums - editor's note) certainly didn't. What do we want in Brazil?" Tom Angelripper notes. "That was the end of it and we started looking for a new guitarist." Sodom released an album almost every year at the time, so there was no time for long auditions. And that was definitely not the style that Tom and Chris were displaying at the time.he new guitarist for the Gelsenkirchen band shouldn't be a virtuoso who had already played in countless other bands. So the casting looked different. At the time, Chris was hanging out for hours in a video store in Essen, where the owner finally told him about his friend, a young guitarist who had no experience in a professional band. "But we don't have any experience ourselves - that would be fine ," said Tom on the day he first heard about Andy Brings. He, in turn, had heard of Sodom years before - and thought they were crap.“So do it – just do it.”

He bought the first two records in the eighties and thought they were too rough. Andy was more into Mötley Crüe and Skid Row back then . "I was really young back then," he says, looking back on his start. "I was still at school. But I never wanted to be anything other than a rock musician in my life. And then suddenly I was presented with an opportunity like this. You only get it once. So do it - just do it." The young musician immediately borrowed the BETTER OFF DEAD record, which, thanks to its "for lack of a better word, commercial orientation ," was more to his taste than OBSESSED BY CRUELTY."It was more in the direction of Skid Row. Sodom were no longer the rumbling, pumping band that I had labelled them as. I could deliver that. So we met and rehearsed." The first sniffing around went in the right direction - both protagonists unanimously described it as "nice". So Andy was there.
